Extensive Raids Conducted in Manipur; Numerous Firearms Confiscated

A significant quantity of weapons has been seized by the police in a sweeping operation across Manipur. Law enforcement officials have recovered 14 firearms along with ammunition and explosive materials. The police carried out thorough searches in various districts including Imphal, Taubal, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur.

Simultaneously, the Supreme Court has expressed its deep concern over the severe violence inflicted upon women in Manipur. The court emphasized the responsibility of the state government to prevent such occurrences. The court has directed a committee of three retired judges to investigate the instances of violence against women in Manipur starting from May 4.

A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud underscored that subjecting women to sexual crimes and violence is entirely unacceptable and constitutes a grave violation of fundamental constitutional principles such as dignity, personal liberty, and independence.
