Swiggy Report Reveals India’s Food Trends in 2023: From Ordering Stars to Surprise Cuisines

In 2023, Swiggy, one of India’s leading online food delivery platforms, released its ‘Annual Trends Report: How India Swiggy’d 2023.’ The report highlighted interesting insights into the food preferences and ordering habits of users throughout the year. With over 6.6 million unique dishes available on Swiggy’s menu nationwide, users displayed a diverse range of tastes and cravings. Mumbai emerged as a standout city, with one person placing food orders worth INR 42.3 lakh. Notably, smaller towns like Jhansi also showcased a high volume of food orders, with one user placing 269 items in a single order for a party.

Several dishes took the spotlight in various regions and festivities. Gulab Jamuns surpassed Roshogollas during Durga Pujo, with over 7.7 million orders. Masala Dosa became the top veg order for all nine days of Navaratri, while Idli reigned supreme in Hyderabad. Biryani continued its dominance as the most-ordered dish for the eighth consecutive year, with 2.5 biryanis ordered per second. Bangalore claimed the title of ‘Cake Capital’ with 8.5 million orders for chocolate cake, and on Valentine’s Day, India ordered 271 cakes per minute. The report also highlighted new trends, including a 146% rise in vegan orders on Swiggy Guiltfree and the growing popularity of Japanese dishes winning over Korean cuisine. Swiggy One and One Lite users enjoyed savings of over INR 900 crores, while Instamart enthusiasts experienced swift delivery, with instant noodles reaching Delhi in just 65 seconds. Overall, the report painted a vibrant picture of India’s diverse culinary landscape and evolving food culture.
