Volkswagen I.D. Buggy steals eyeballs at the Geneva International Motorshow 2019
Volkswagen’s electric future looks fun, at least that’s the kind of vibe the I.D. Buggy concept is all about at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show this year. The new concept is heavily inspired by ‘60s-era Beetle-based dune buggies and is more of a design study than a preview to a production model.
The Volkswagen I.D. Buggy Concept is based on the automaker’s new Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB) platform that will underpin a host of new electric models from the automaker.
It stands for freedom, wind in the hair and the smell of sea air. Elvis, James Bond and Steve McQueen, they all drove it: the dune buggy of the 1960s and 70s. Now the cult classic car returns – this time all-electric. The new Volkswagen study, based on the Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB), is celebrating its premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show.
The authentic reinterpretation of the original dune buggy has been achieved without a fixed roof and conventional doors. In addition, freestanding wheels with off-road tyres and open side skirts dominate the overall impression.
The new MEB concept vehicle proves, that this fully electric platform can be used for more than large-scale series production models. The Modular Electric Toolkit has the potential, just as the Beetle-chassis did at the time, to customize low-series vehicles, making them able to find the light of day – demonstrating once again, that „e“ also stands for emotion
