The man who stole 29 cars gets arrested after stealing an SUV from Mumbai

Mumbai :The Ghatkopar police on Tuesday arrested a 39-year-old man for stealing an SUV of a 47-year-old man in January.

The accused Satish Segal Pujari had 29 cases of car theft registered against him across the Mumbai metropolitan area. The police recovered two cars from him. The modus operandi followed by Pujari was to work as a driver at a place and then flee with the car using duplicate keys a month later, police said.

Deep Bane, assistant police inspector, confirmed Pujari’s arrest.

The police said the complainant Mukesh Muknak, a resident, registered a car theft case in January. “Muknak was looking for a driver and had posted an advertisement in a newspaper. Seeing the advertisement, Pujari approached Muknak and started working as his driver. After working for a month Pujari left the job citing health reasons. While working Pujari had made duplicate keys of the vehicle. Pujari stole the car in January as he knew where the car used to be parked,” said M Khandare, police sub-inspector.

“With the help of local informers and CCTV footage, we laid a trap and arrested Pujari from Dharavi,” said a police officer.
