AAP to launch their lok sabha election campaign today from west Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to launch its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, starting Saturday from the west Delhi segment, the party said in a press statement issued Friday.

The statement issued by the party said the date to start the campaign was decided keeping in mind the day of Balidaan Divas on March 23, the day freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged in 1931. It is the west Delhi Lok Sabha constituency which will witness the first set of public rallies.

The AAP had fielded candidates in six out of the seven Lok Sabha seats in the city on March 2, leaving only west Delhi. The name of the AAP’s candidate for this constituency, Balbir Singh Jakhar, a lawyer by profession, was announced earlier this week.

Saturday’s campaign will include road shows in all 10 Assembly constituencies under the jurisdiction of the west Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Gopal Rai, the party’s Delhi convener, will be accompanying Jakhar in the rally. The statement said four senior AAP leaders will supervise the election campaign for the party, which has been divided in two phases.

These are party head and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai and AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.

It added that the central theme of the campaign will be full statehood for Delhi.

The AAP had earlier said that it will start its election campaign after Holi, despite party functionaries claiming back channel talks for an alliance with the Congress were still on.
