Kerala’s liquor stores will be closed on Thiruvonam

Thiruvananthapuram: The state excise department has announced that liquor stores and bars in Kerala will be closed on Thiruvonam day (Saturday) to avoid crowding.

The Excise Department has informed its various divisions that all foreign liquor outlets in the state will be closed on Thiruvonam.

“Because Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) outlets are usually closed on the occasion of Thiruvonam, there is a possibility of crowding and COVID protocol violation at other foreign liquor outlets,” said Deputy Excise Commissioner Pradeepkumar K in a statement.

“As a result, the government has proposed prohibiting the sale of foreign liquor outlets in the state on Thiruvonam.”
Previously, the state government had denied liquor stores permission to operate on Independence Day, citing an increase in coronavirus cases.
