Do you have salt in your kitchen? If you answered yes, Congratulations! You now have access to a potential beauty ingredient which also tends to be the most neglected one. Thank us later, for we bring to you the salt hacks that will completely transform your beauty regime and give you the gorgeous skin and hair that you’ve always wanted.

Grossly irresponsible? Study finds high salt diet bad for ...

So if you’re saving money, here are some salt-based alternatives to add to your everyday beauty regime:

Facial exfoliator

Mix together salt and olive oil and massage into your face. This acts as a natural exfoliant, removing dead skin cells and preventing pores from getting blocked.

Body exfoliator

Mix salt with your normal shower gel, creating a cheaper but just as effective exfoliator. Alternatively, when your skin’s still damp after a shower, rub salt gently all over your skin to remove dead skin and get your circulation going.

Salt for the sole

You deserve some ‘feet up’ time. Soak your feet in a bowl of salty water. It’s not only relaxing but also helps to prevent infections.

Fighting oily skin

Do you suffer from an oily complexion? Fill a small spray bottle with tepid water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and spray gently on to your face.

Bright white smile

Mix salt and baking soda to create a home-made toothpaste that whitens teeth and removes plaque.

To make the toothpaste, grind salt in a blender or spread some on a chopping board and roll it with a rolling pin to crush salt into a fine sand-like texture. Mix 1 part crushed salt with 2 parts baking soda, then dip a dampened toothbrush into the mixture and brush your teeth.

Hair with OOMPH

Combine equal parts of deep conditioner and Epsom salt. Warm in a pan. Work the warm mixture through your hair and leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse.

Nailing it

Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon sea salt and soak your nails in the mixture to reduce yellowing and remove dirt.

Beach wave hair

Create beach waves by mixing salt and water and spraying freely over your hair. Either wait for it to dry on its own or blow-dry, scrunching as you go. You can also add coconut oil for added moisture.

Please remember that all skin is sensitive and we suggest seeking expert advice before using alternative facial products.
