Bomb attacks in Sri Lanka was aided by an international network

The Easter Sunday bomb attacks in Sri Lanka were carried out with the help of an international network, cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said on Monday.

“We do not believe these attacks were carried out by a group of people who were confined to this country,” Senaratne said. “There was an international network without which these attacks could not have succeeded.”

Documents seen by AFP show Sri Lanka’s police chief issued a warning on April 11, saying that a “foreign intelligence agency” had reported NTJ was planning attacks on churches and the Indian high commission.

NTJ is a radical Muslim group that his been linked to the vandalising of Buddhist statues.

A police source told that all 24 people in custody in connection with the attacks belong to an “extremist” group, but did not specify further.

The series of bomb attacks on the day of easter had taken the lives of 290 people .
