Prominent Malayalam Cinema Film Editor, Harihara Puthran, Passes Away at 79

Harihara Puthran, a well-known and respected film editor in the Malayalam film industry, has sadly passed away at the age of 79. He breathed his last at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. The funeral proceedings are scheduled to take place today at 2 pm at Santhikavadam in Thaycaud.

Having dedicated nearly fifty years to the industry, Harihara Puthran made significant contributions to numerous successful films, including Sukhamo Devi, Samrajyam, Punjabi House, Mayavi, and Pandipada. His final project, ‘The Great Indian Road Movie,’ directed by Sohanlal in 2019, showcased his enduring passion for his craft.

Throughout his career, KP Hariharaputhran held various roles, including assistant editor, associate editor, and editor in various Malayalam movies. His journey began as an assistant editor with the 1971 release ‘Vilakku Vangiya Veena,’ after which he transitioned to the role of associate editor for ‘Vithukal’ later that year.

His initial foray into independent editing came with the 1979 horror film ‘Kalliyankattu Neeli,’ directed by M Krishnan Nair. Notable works in his extensive portfolio include films like ‘April 18,’ ‘Sukhamo Devi,’ ‘Vivahithare Ithile,’ ‘Saravakalashala,’ ‘Chakoram,’ ‘Aniyan Bava Chettan Bava,’ and ‘The Car.’ The list continues with ‘Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam,’ ‘Punjabi House,’ ‘Pandippada,’ ‘Thommanum Makkalum,’ ‘Mayavi,’ and ‘Chathikkatha Chanthu,’ among many others.
