The Congress chief reassures justice to Alwar gang-rape survivor

Alwar : Rahul Gandhi today reassured the Alwar gang-rape survivor and her family that they would receive justice.

Speaking to the media at Alwar, Rahul Gandhi said, “The family talked about nyay (justice). Justice will be done. Action will be taken against perpetrator”.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who was also at the press conference, said, “We will ensure maximum punishment to the accused”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati have criticized the Congress government in the state and the police force for allegedly supressing news of the attack.

Mayawati said, “The Congress government suppressed this incident till the end of election in Rajasthan to preserve their political benefits and threatened the family of the survivor to keep quiet about it”.

The incident took place on April 26. The woman was riding pillion on a motorcycle with her husband when the accused, who were on two bikes, waylaid them in Alwar and took them to a field. They allegedly thrashed the husband and raped the woman in front of him.

The woman’s husband has said that the police were informed on April 30, but the FIR was filed on May 7. He alleged that the police did not act quickly because of the election.

Rajasthan voted in the Lok Sabha polls in two phases on April 29 and May 6. The police said they have arrested all the six accused – Indra Raj Gurjar, Mahesh Gurjar, Ashok Gurjar, Hansraj Gurjar, Chhote Lal Gurjar and Mukesh Gurjar.
