Kerala Merchants Stage Statewide Strike Demanding Business-Friendly Policies

In a display of solidarity, shops across the state of Kerala will remain closed on Tuesday as part of a strike organized by the ‘Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi.’ The protestors are advocating for the establishment of a dedicated ministry that consolidates various laws and sections related to business activities. Additionally, they urge the state government to waive user fees for businesses not generating waste.

The strike, marked by a march led by organization president Raju, will culminate in Thiruvananthapuram today. Raju is set to present a petition, signed by 5 lakh businessmen in the state, outlining their demands. G Jayapal, president of the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association, announced that hotels and bakeries statewide will observe the strike from 6 AM to 6 PM in support of the protest. However, hotels in the state capital have been granted an ‘exemption’ from the strike.

This collective effort aims to draw attention to the concerns of businesses and emphasize the need for favorable policies that promote a conducive environment for trade and commerce.
