Avinashi mishap: KSRTC to provide Rs 10 lakh aid for families of victims

Transport Minister A K Saseendran announced that an aid of Rs 10 lakh will be provided to the families of the deceased in the KSRTC volvo bus accident that occurred on the Salem-Kochi highway at Avinashi in Tirupur on Thursday around 4 am. KSRTC will provide Rs 2 lakh as an immediate aid to the bereaved families and Rs 8 lakh will be given later. This is from the KSRTC insurance fund, he said.

19 persons were dead and 28 injured as a lorry collided with the KSRTC bus reducing it to a mangled heap. The bus was proceeding to Ernakulum from Bengaluru when the tiles-laden container lorry entered the wrong lane and collided with the bus. Most of the passengers were asleep. Out of the 19 dead, 18 are Malayalees. Meanwhile, the ambulances carrying the bodies of the deceased are brought home after post-mortem.
