The CM warns of harsh repercussions for those who abuse online study platforms

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Tuesday that while digital school education has been a great success in the state during the pandemic, there have been attempts to misuse children’s online study platforms for anti-social activities, and he has warned of strict action against such cyber crimes.

Though the cyber sector has many positive aspects, it is increasingly being used by anti-social elements to commit crimes and mislead children, he told the state Assembly.

“One such intervention was the hacking of online classes through the use of fake IDs and the uploading of obscene conversations and videos to (social media) groups that children, teachers, and parents are members of. What we require is uncompromised security “He stated.

Pinarayi Vijayan was responding to CPI(M) legislator Sachin Dev’s submission on the recent attempt by some vested interests to intrude into children’s online study platforms.

Despite the fact that the state government has only limited control over many online platforms because the majority of them are foreign-made, he claims that all possible measures have been taken to regulate such crimes.

The Chief Minister stated that police received 51 such complaints in this regard during the current academic year, and that a total of eight cases were registered after verifying the information received, and that the investigation is ongoing.

Children can only be made aware of such dangers through strict awareness, and “it requires our collective effort,” he said.

He also described the various steps taken by the state police to combat cybercrime at all levels, particularly against children and other vulnerable groups in society.
