S.P. Balasubrahmanyam (1946-2020) : A playlist of most memorable songs

Legendary singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam died this afternoon at MGM Healthcare in Chennai. He was 74. The playback singer had tested positive for the covid 19 in August and had been in hospital for a month.

This Guinness World Record holder for recording the highest number of songs predominantly worked in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam languages and has also bagged six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer.

‘Nilaave Vaa Sellathey Vaa’

The romantic number from Mounaragam was sung by Balasubrahmanyam, and till date remains one of his most memorable love songs.

‘Ilaiya Nilaa Pozhikirathe’

This popular number composed by veteran music director Ilaiyaraaja, the song from Mohan’s critically acclaimed Tamil drama Payanangal Mudivathillai, went onto become a huge hit.

Mere Jeevan Saathi 

S.P. Balasubrahmanyam’s exuberant delivery on this track from Ek Duuje Kiye Le was perfect for Kamal Haasan’s manic performance.
