IMD Issues Alert as Isolated Heavy Rains Expected in Kerala Till January 10

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a special bulletin forecasting isolated heavy rains in Kerala until January 10. According to the bulletin, rain or thundershowers are expected in a few places on January 5, 6, 8, and in one or two places on January 9 and 10. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert, indicating heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm in 24 hours, for specific districts on Friday and Saturday. These districts include Palakkad and Idukki on January 5, and Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram on January 6.

Although the low-pressure area over the Southeast Arabian Sea has become less marked, the associated cyclonic circulation remains over the region, extending to the Lakshadweep area. Additionally, a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation to South Karnataka, and another cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the south Sri Lanka coast has become less marked, according to the IMD.
