Last Rites of Veteran CPI Leader Kanam Rajendran at His Home in Vazhoor

Kanam Rajendran, the veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI), passed away at the age of 73. He had been undergoing treatment for diabetes and recently underwent foot amputation surgery. The CPI State Secretary had applied for a three-month leave from his responsibilities, citing health issues. Kanam Rajendran served as the CPI State Secretary for two terms and was currently in his third term. He played a significant role in Kerala politics, having been elected as an MLA twice and serving in various leadership positions within the party. The public will have the opportunity to pay their last respects during the procession from Thiruvananthapuram to Kottayam, where the final rites will be held at his residence in Vazhoor.

Kanam Rajendran’s contributions to student politics in the 70s marked the beginning of a long and impactful political career. Born on November 10, 1950, in Kottayam, he became the AIYF State Secretary at the age of 23 and later served as AITU State General Secretary and President. In 1982 and 1987, he was elected as an MLA from Vazhur. Known for his organizational skills, Kanam Rajendran left an indelible mark on trade unions during his tenure as AITUC State General Secretary and President. His funeral procession is expected to draw crowds along the route from Thiruvananthapuram to Kottayam, reflecting the widespread respect and admiration for the veteran leader in Kerala.
