New Delhi: Delhi Police constable Amit Rana, who died of Coronavirus infection, has been denied treatment by a hospital and a hospital discharged while on treatment. A colleague, shocked to hear the tragic experience of Rana, 31 says.
Amit Rana, who came home late Monday evening after work, had a slight fever. He was on medication and was rushed to the COVID Testing Center in Ashok Vihar on Tuesday morning following a fever. However, officials insisted that only COVID-19 check can be done and no admission could be made.
They went to Baba Saheb Ambed Kar Hospital, but they refused treatment. As a result of the involvement of senior staff, Rana received treatment at the Deep Chand Bandhu government hospital. After receiving treatment, they sent him back for COVID-19 check-up.
Rana came to Ashok Vihar and was instructed to go under observation. But things were getting worse as time went on. Rana was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. On Wednesday, as Rana’s test results were positive his colleagues are suggested to undergo self-monitoring.
A native of Sonipat in Haryana, Rana was an officer of Delhi’s Bharat Nagar Police Station. He has wife and three-year-old son. The Delhi government has announced Rs 1 crore grant for Rana’s family. 70 cops of Delhi Police have been tested COVID positive. Eight people got recovered so far.
