Dilip Kumar’s first salary was Rs 100, which he earned by selling sandwiches!

Dilip Kumar, the late legendary actor, died on July 7, 2021, leaving behind a bereaved family, fans, and friends. Let us take a trip down memory lane to a time when Dilip Saab did not work in show business and made a living by selling sandwiches in Pune.

According to an Indian Express report, Dilip set up a stall in Pune in 1940 and sold sandwiches.

During a “Pride of Pune” programme a few years ago, Dilip Kumar refreshed his memories and shared his connection with the Pune city with Shailesh Gujar of Pune Vrut Darshan. He also stated that veteran actor Raj Kapoor was one of the few who frequented the location.

“This city provided me with my first earnings of Rs 100. “In 1940, after a disagreement with my father, I set up a stall to sell sandwiches outside the Army canteen at Pune Camp,” he once said.

The actor also revealed how he saved money to return to the city of his happiness, saying, “I earned money from the sandwiches I sold and saved Rs 5,000.” I then returned to Mumbai with that money. But I’ll never forget the first Rs 100 I earned — it was my first savings and it came from this city. That brought me a lot of joy.”

Dilip Kumar, the legendary Bollywood icon and Kohinoor of Indian cinema, died on July 7, 2021, at PD Hinduja hospital in Mumbai.

Dilip Kumar was accorded full state honours, and his final rites were attended by a sea of fans and well-wishers.

The 98-year-old actor had been battling age-related health issues for a long time, and he had been supported by his wife Saira Banu throughout his life.
Several celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Shabana Azmi, Madhur Bhandarkar, and others, were seen paying their respects to the legend at his residence.

According to reports, Dilip Kumar worked in 65 films over the course of his nearly five-decade career.

The Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civilian award, was bestowed upon him in 1998.
