Amazon Aims for $20 Billion Merchandise Exports from India by 2025

E-commerce giant Amazon is targeting merchandise exports worth $20 billion from India by 2025, with a focus on adding thousands of small sellers to its platform. Bhupen Wakankar, Director Global Trade at Amazon, stated that there is significant demand for “Made in India” products such as organic health supplements, homeware, and robotic games. Amazon Global Trade, launched in 2015, has seen substantial growth, with over 100,000 small manufacturers joining to sell a variety of products globally. The company aims to support first-time exporters and those who transitioned from corporate jobs to start e-commerce exports.

India’s exports have faced a 7% decline year-on-year in the first seven months of the current fiscal year. However, the e-commerce platform has witnessed robust growth in categories like beauty, apparel, home, kitchen, furniture, and toys. The upcoming holiday season, including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, and New Year, is expected to drive sales of Indian products in markets like the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Germany.

In an effort to encourage exporters, Amazon has reduced the subscription fees for its global selling program from $120 to $1 for the first three months, applicable for exporters signing up before March 31.

The move aligns with Amazon’s commitment to supporting small and medium-sized businesses, providing them with a global platform to reach customers worldwide.
