Sharp increase; Kerala recorded 62 COVID-19 cases on Saturday

Kerala recorded 62 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, its highest ever number confirmed in a day, while 3 tested negative, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said through his official Facebook account. This is for the second consecutive day that Kerala is recording the highest number of coronavirus cases in a day, On Friday, the number was 42. Out of the new cases, 19 are from Palakkad district, 16 are from Kannur, 8 are from Malappuram, 5 from Alappuzha, 4 each from Kozhikode and Kasaragod, 3 from Kollam, 2 from Kottayam and 1 from Wayanad.

Out of the 62 coronavirus positive cases, 18 had returned from abroad (UAE-9, Saudi Arabia -3, Kuwait – 2, Maldives – 1, Singapore – 1, Oman- 1, Qatar -1). 31 had returned from other states (Maharashtra – 13, Tamil Nadu – 12, Gujarat- 2, Karnataka – 2, Uttar Pradesh – 1, Delhi – 1). More importantly, 13 people developed the disease through contact, out of which 7 are health workers (Palakkad – 3, Kannur -2, Kozhikode -2).

The three negative cases are from Kollam, Kottayam and Kasaragod districts. Till date 794 persons have been confirmed with the disease out of which 275 are under treatment while 515 have recovered. At present, 91,084 persons are kept under isolation in the state – 90,416 in home or institutional quarantines and 668 in hospitals. As many as 182 persons were admitted to hospitals on Saturday.
