Monsoon to reach Kerala around June 1

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that monsoon rains are likely to enter India through the southern coast around June 1, marking the monsoon onset over Kerala. This is because conditions are becoming favourable for monsoon winds to advance as a low pressure area is expected to develop over the Arabian Sea between May 31 and June 4.

The IMD said that a low pressure area is likely to form over south-east and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea, close to the Indian coast between May 31 and 4 June which will bring rain. It had earlier forecast the arrival of monsoon rains over Kerala on June 5, four days later than usual.
