COVID-19 cases in Kerala; 57 new cases on Monday; 18 test negative

Kerala recorded 57 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday while 18 tested negative, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said while addressing the media after a coronavirus review meeting here. Kozhikode native Sulekha, who was undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College, succumbed on Sunday night taking the death toll in the state to 10. She was suffering from heart ailments, the CM said.

Among the new cases 14 each are from Kasaragod and Malappuram, 9 are from Thrissur, 5 are from Kollam, 4 are from Pathanamthitta, 3 each are from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, 2 each are form Alappuzha and Palakkad, while one is from Idukki. Out of the new cases 55 had returned from outside. While 27 returned from abroad, 28 returned from other states. Out of the remaining two, one is an Air India staff while the other is a health worker.

Out of the 18 negative cases, 7 are from Malappuram, 3 each are from Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam, 1 each from Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. So far, Kerala has recorded 1,326 cases out of which 708 are undergoing treatment while 608 have recovered. Meanwhile, 1,39,661 are kept under observation with 1,38,397 in house/institutional quarantine while 1,246 in hospitals. 174 have been newly admitted to hospitals on Monday.
