Mani Ratnam’s ‘Navarasa’ trailer out

The trailer for the much-anticipated Tamil anthology ‘Navarasa,’ spearheaded by Mani Ratnam and filmmaker Jayendra Panchapakesan, will be released on Tuesday. On August 6, the film will be released on Netflix.

Anger, compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace, and wonder are among the nine ‘rasas’ or human emotions explored in the anthology.
“Emotions may be fleeting, but some of those fleeting moments stay with us for life,” Mani Ratnam said of the anthology. Emotions are a part of our lives every day, and some of them can change the course of our lives. This is what draws people to Navarasa. Though there is usually more than one emotion at work, it is often one that seizes control of our minds and souls and propels us into action. Navarasa is a collection of nine stories inspired by nine different emotions. Some of these pivot in a split second. Some take shape from deep-rooted feelings. Navarasa showcases them all.”

Jayendra Panchapakesan added that the project is also intended to help film workers in Tamil cinema who have been affected by the pandemic “We are extremely happy and proud of our industry colleagues, directors, actors, and technicians, who have created engaging, exciting stories based on these nine emotions, or the traditional ‘rasas.’ We are confident that viewers all over the world will enjoy and celebrate this convergence of ‘rasas.'”

Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, Priyadarshan, Rathindran R. Prasad, Sarjun, and Vasanth S. Sai direct the films.
The anthology stars Suriya, Vijay Setupati, Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Anjali, and Sidharth from Kollywood, and Revathi, Parvathi Thiruvothu, Manikuttan, Prayaga Martin, and Ramya Nambeesan from Mollywood.
