Saudi Arabia to limit Hajj pilgrims to 1,000 this year

Saudi Arabia to limit Hajj pilgrim numbers to less or more than 1,000 to protect public health in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, says report from Saudi authorities.

“The number of pilgrims will be around 1,000, maybe less, maybe a little more, the health ministry has accumulated experience in the service of pilgrims, and thus has enough human and technical capacities to serve pilgrims and preserve their health,” said Health Minister Tawfiq al-Rabiah.

Pilgrims will have to go through coronavirus test before arriving in the holy city of Mecca and will be required to quarantine at home after the ritual. Medical Proffesionals will also accompany pilgrims throughout their journey.

Authorities have not specify how the pilgrims will be selected.
