According to Maharashtra, The total number of Omicron cases now stands at 48

New Delhi: On Friday (December 17), Maharashtra reported eight new cases of the coronavirus’s Omicron variant. The state’s Omicron tally increased to 48 after the addition.

Six of the eight patients are from Pune, with the remaining two from Mumbai and Thane, respectively. They are all fully immunised against COVID-19.

The patients have a history of travel. Four of them had travelled to Dubai, one from the United States, and one from Nigeria.

Two infected patients, on the other hand, are close contacts of the Dubai returnees who tested positive in the first week of December.

Seven out of every eight new patients have no symptoms. One has mild symptoms, and two are hospitalised, with efforts underway to track down all infected people’s contacts.

Since December 1, passengers arriving at the three international airports – Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur – have been subjected to intensive surveillance.

Meanwhile, the southern state of Kerala reported two new Omicron cases on Friday. The total number of Omicrons in the state has now risen to 7.

The new coronavirus variant was discovered in an elderly couple who arrived in Kochi from the UAE.

Earlier today, ten new cases of the Omicron variant were reported in Delhi, bringing the total number of cases in the capital to 20.

Out of the total of 20, ten people have been released.
