WhatsApp Enforces Stricter Measures: Bans 71.1 Lakh Indian Accounts in September to Uphold IT Rules

In compliance with India’s IT rules, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, took stringent actions against accounts violating its policies in September. According to the latest monthly report, a staggering 71.1 lakh Indian accounts were banned, out of which 25.7 lakh were proactively removed without any user reports. The report, which focuses on user safety, outlines the measures taken by WhatsApp to combat platform abuse.

During September, WhatsApp received 10,442 user reports covering various categories, including account support, ban appeal, and safety concerns. The platform took action on 85 accounts based on these reports. The report clarifies that “Accounts Actioned” indicates remedial actions such as banning or restoring previously banned accounts based on user complaints. It also emphasizes that safety-related grievances are promptly addressed, ensuring a safer environment for users.

Additionally, the report highlights WhatsApp’s compliance with six orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee. WhatsApp’s actions align with its commitment to maintaining a secure and user-friendly messaging platform, actively responding to user complaints and enforcing necessary measures to uphold India’s IT regulations.
