Kanpur: Kanpur-based perfume industrialist Piyush Jain, who was arrested on tax evasion charges after central agencies raided his home and offices, will appear in court today (Monday). He was charged with violating Section 69 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act.

On Thursday, the Income Tax (IT) department, along with the CBIC and the GST Intelligence Unit, raided Piyush Jain’s offices in Kanpur, Kannauj, and Mumbai. According to officials, Piyush Jain was apprehended by the GST Intelligence unit in Kanpur on Sunday.

Surendra Kumar, Joint Commissioner (Kanpur), Goods and Services Tax, announced on Sunday night that Jain had been arrested for tax evasion. “The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has arrested Piyush Jain, promoter of Odochem Industries, and he will be presented in Kanpur court on Monday 27,” he said.

The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) court will be asked to remand Jain for interrogation.

On Sunday, a five-person IT Department team raided Piyush Jain’s ancestral home in Kannauj.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed at an election rally in Prayagraj on Sunday that Piyush Jain has ties to the Samajwadi Party.

“For the past two or three days, continuous raids have been conducted on the premises of an SP member.” “We recovered Rs. 257 crore in cash and several kilograms of gold and silver,” the Chief Minister claimed.

The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) court will be asked to remand Jain for interrogation.
