Temporary Nurse Dismissed for Administering Rabies Shot to Feverish Child; Hospital Faces Allegations

Punitive measures have been enacted against a temporary nurse at Angamaly taluk hospital who administered an anti-rabies shot to a young girl seeking treatment for a fever. Following Health Minister Veena George’s intervention, the health department’s director initiated an inquiry, which promptly led to the nurse’s dismissal after the superintendent of Angamaly Taluk Hospital submitted a report indicating negligence on the nurse’s part. The incident occurred on a Friday morning when the nurse administered the rabies shot to a seven-year-old girl from Kothakulangara, who was left unattended by her mother momentarily as she obtained an OP ticket. Despite the child’s current well-being and her parents’ decision not to file a complaint, the Angamaly police and local BJP Municipal Committee raised concerns about the hospital’s actions. Consequently, activists staged a protest in front of the hospital premises.
