Afghan President Ashraf Ghani escaped with four cars and a helicopter full of cash in the country, according to the Russian embassy in Kabul

Moscow: According to the Russian embassy in Kabul, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country with four cars and a helicopter full of cash, but had to leave some money behind because it would not all fit, according to the RIA news agency.

Ghani, whose current whereabouts are unknown, said he left Afghanistan on Sunday as the Taliban marched into Kabul almost unopposed. He stated that he wished to avoid bloodshed.

Russia has stated that it will maintain a diplomatic presence in Kabul and hopes to develop ties with the Taliban, while also stating that it is not in a hurry to recognise them as the country’s rulers and will closely monitor their behaviour.
“As for the collapse of the (outgoing) regime, it is most eloquently characterised by the manner in which Ghani fled Afghanistan,” RIA quoted Nikita Ishchenko, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Kabul, as saying.

“Four cars were filled with money, and they attempted to fit the rest of it into a helicopter, but not all of it fit. And some of the cash was left on the tarmac “He was reported to have said.

The Russian embassy’s spokesman, Ischenko, confirmed his remarks to Reuters. He stated that he got his information from “witnesses.” Reuters was unable to independently confirm the veracity of his account right away.

Zamir Kabulov, President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for Afghanistan, previously stated that it was unclear how much money the fleeing government would leave behind.

“I hope the fledgling government did not drain the entire state budget. If something is left over, it will form the foundation of the budget “Kabulov told the Moscow radio station Ekho Moskvy.
