Happy Sardar : Kalidas and team comes with old wine in new bottle

Happy Sardar is a Malayalam comedy drama written and directed by Sudip Joshy and Geethika Sudip. The film has hit on theatres on 28th November. The film stars

Kalidasan Jayaram,Javed Jaffrey, Sreenath Bhasi,Siddhi Mahajankatti,Balu Varghese,Siddique , Mala Parvathi, and Praveena in the lead roles. The film is running in theatres receiving mixed reviews.

Plot

Happy Sardar revolves around two families. A Knanaya Christian family and a traditional Punjabi family. Our hero Happy falls in love with a Malayali girl who is adamant to marry a Knanaya guy whom her father finds for her .

Eventually love blooms between them and that leads to a lot of events that takes the plot forward. It includes lot of dramatic yet funny elements that keeps us glued to the screen.

The plot is quite predictable and it does not have a lot of twists and turns. But the theme of the film itself is simple and it may loose the beauty if they try to include more twists.

Performance

Kalidas Jayaram is the hero of Happy Sardar but if the audience say its a Siddique film, we have to agree with that.

Siddique was brilliant. The story progressed through Siddique. His character- Joycee is the most engaging character in the film.

Javed Jaffrey has also played splendid job. These two characters are the highlights of Happy Sardar. Flawless performances by Praveena, Mala Parvathy and Sharafuddeen has actually sidelined the lead actors.

That was the main problem with Kalidas Jayaram. Already he is trying hard to stamp his identity as a grown up actor. He could not impress us yet as he did as a child artist with just two films.

In this film it is really clear that he tried hard to get the body language of an enthusiastic Punjabi youngster and match with Javed Jaffrey. But failed he miserably. He has to work on his level of performance to register his signature in the industry.

Verdict

Happy Sardar is a simple film without any twists and turns but it carries a very relevant theme that our conventional Indians should be ready to accept at least now, its already hightime.!
