Spotify Tests Full Music Videos for Premium Subscribers in Potential YouTube Faceoff

In a strategic move, Swedish music streaming giant Spotify is set to challenge YouTube’s dominance in the music video arena by introducing full-length music videos for its premium subscribers. This limited beta launch, starting in select countries including the UK, Germany, and Brazil, aims to expand Spotify’s user base while enhancing the user experience for existing premium subscribers.

The roll-out will feature a curated selection of music videos, encompassing global hits from artists like Ed Sheeran as well as local favorites such as Aluna. This initiative follows Spotify’s introduction of “clips” last year, short vertical videos uploaded directly to the platform by artists. Additionally, Spotify has been diversifying its offerings, incorporating podcasts and audiobooks to attract a broader audience.

This move comes amidst Spotify’s optimistic projections for its premium subscriber base, aiming to surpass 239 million users in the current quarter. Moreover, Spotify’s recent announcement to enable audiobook purchases within its app in Europe reflects its efforts to navigate around Apple’s App Store fees, a longstanding point of contention for the company. As Spotify continues to innovate and expand its services, it positions itself as a formidable competitor in the digital entertainment landscape.
