Kerala Electricity Tariffs Set to Rise Again, Minister Confirms

Kerala’s Electricity Minister, K Krishnankutty, has announced that electricity tariffs in the state are poised for another increase. The decision, he explained, is influenced by the costs incurred when purchasing power from external sources, with sellers determining the price. The regulatory committee will ultimately decide on the extent of the tariff hike.

The recent uptick of Rs 0.17 in electricity rates is attributed to the Union government’s choice to import coal, according to the minister. He assured the public that the upcoming increase would be minimal. Krishnankutty also expressed hope that if Kerala receives sufficient rainfall, the need for the tariff hike could be entirely averted.
