Kerala logs 42,154 new COVID cases, death toll touches 54,395

Kerala reported 42,154 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, informed the health department in a press release. The test positivity was recorded as 42.4%. The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam-9453, Thrissur-6177, Kozhikode-4074, Thiruvananthapuram- 3271, Kottayam-2840, Kollam-2817, Palakkad-2718, Malappuram-2463, Alappuzha-2074, Kannur-1572, Idukki-1451, Pathanamthitta-1338, Wayanad-1062 and Kasaragod-844.

A total of 99,410 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 5,37,909 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,25,238 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 12,637 people are in hospitals. 1,340 people were taken to hospitals on Monday. Among the 3,57,552 active Covid cases reported, only 3.2 per cent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.

Along with 10 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 638 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Apart from this, 81 more deaths recorded late due to the delay in obtaining the documents were also added to the list of COVID deaths. With this, the death toll climbed to 54,395 in the state. Among the new patients, 174 were returned from outside the state. 38,406 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 3,234 patients remains unidentified. 340 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 38,458 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-6827, Kollam-2353, Pathanamthitta-2244, Alappuzha-1541, Kottayam-1099, Idukki-1317, Ernakulam-7632, Thrissur-4538, Palakkad-2121, Malappuram-2165, Kozhikode-2805, Wayanad-927, Kannur-1260 and Kasaragod-1629. 56,12,993 people were recovered from the disease so far.
