Even after his wife’s death, the man continues to raise funds for her treatment; a complaint has been filed

Kottayam: Despite having enough money, a man raised lakhs of rupees through social media in the name of his hospitalised wife, who was pregnant. Following the woman’s death, her husband refused to pay the full hospital bill. Along with this, even after his wife’s death, he shared old social media posts for donations and lived a lavish lifestyle with the money.

His father-in-law was the one who filed a complaint against him for ruthless fraud. In May, a 30-year-old Thiruvalla native was admitted to a private hospital in Kottayam. Despite the fact that she became Covid negative after a week, the unborn child died. She died soon after as a result of pneumonia and a lung infection.

Meanwhile, her husband began fund-raising and amassed more than Rs 35 lakhs. The hospital bill was nearly Rs 26 lakhs. However, the husband paid Rs 7 lakhs less in the hospital and pleaded with the authorities to release his wife’s body. The hospital administration agreed on humanitarian grounds.

The deceased’s father stated that the families are financially secure and that there is no need to raise funds for the treatment. He also stated that the other family members were not aware of the husband’s decision to solicit donations. In addition, he had received Rs 4 lakhs from his father-in-law. The woman’s father claimed in the complaint that her husband had collected money from other relatives and friends.

The woman’s funeral was held on the property of the house. The husband had never visited her house after the rituals, despite the fact that he possessed 50 sovereigns of gold from his wife. Many people, unaware of the woman’s death, continue to donate money to the husband’s account. In light of this, the wife’s relatives filed a complaint with the Thiruvalla DySP on August 18.

Following the filing of the complaint, the husband paid the remaining balance to the hospital. It is alleged that he mortgaged his late wife’s gold to pay for this hospital bill.
