Kadakh movie review: A chaotic dark comedy

Rajat Kapoor’s new flick Kadakh  seems quite similar to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1948 thriller Rope. A man is killed in a house hours before a houseparty. The body is hidden in a chest and the chest is used as a prop in the story.  Rope starts with a murder, this one begins with a suicide.

Sunil (Ranvir Shorey) is visited by a stranger, Raghav (Chandrachoor Rai), who reveals himself to the be the husband of Chhaya (Palomi Ghosh), whom Sunil was having an affair with and he kills himself in front of Sunil. Sunil lies to his wife Malti (Mansi Multani) about the identity of Raghav and the couple hide his body in a chest as they begin to welcome guests for a Diwali party they have arranged.

In between these drama, the humour finds a way and manages to make you laugh. The whole movie has been shot like a theatre play and that works. He has been successful in displaying the stories of dysfunctional and pseudo intellectual friends.

The music, background score and sound design and editing is fine as well. At one point, you might wonder where the movie is heading as the story doesn’t really move forward until the last half an hour, which is edgy, funny and keeps you hooked.
