Assembly Election Dates Announced: Five States to Go to Polls from Nov 7 to Nov 30, Results on Dec 3

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar declared the assembly election dates for five states, namely Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. The Election Commission (EC) has conducted extensive consultations with political parties and enforcement agencies in preparation for these crucial polls.

The voters list for these elections comprises 8.2 crore males, 7.8 crore females, and 60.2 lakh first-time voters. The EC has placed special emphasis on ensuring inclusive electoral rolls with a focus on roll-to-poll conversion. A total of 1.77 lakh polling stations will be established, and webcasting facilities will be available at 1.01 lakh booths, enhancing transparency in the electoral process.

The election schedule is as follows:

Mizoram: November 7

Chhattisgarh: November 7 and 17 (Two-phase polling)

Madhya Pradesh: November 17

Rajasthan: November 23

Telangana: November 30

The election results will be announced on December 3, marking a significant milestone in the country’s electoral calendar. Notably, a new Election Seizure Management System has been introduced for these assembly polls to ensure inducement-free elections. Rigorous vigilance measures, including 940 checkposts along interstate borders, have been implemented to curb the influx of illicit items such as liquor, cash, freebies, and drugs. The authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the misuse of money power, with a particular focus on monitoring suspicious online cash transfers through wallets.

It is crucial to note the political landscape of these states. The Congress party governs Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while the BJP holds power in Madhya Pradesh. Telangana is governed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and Mizoram is under the leadership of NDA partner Mizo National Front (MNF). With the announcement of poll dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force, setting the stage for a vibrant democratic process.

These elections bear immense significance as they precede the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May next year, shaping the political trajectory of these states and setting the tone for the national political landscape.
