Heavy rains are expected in Kerala, prompting an orange alert in four districts.

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain is expected in Kerala over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

An orange alert has been issued in the districts of Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur, while a yellow alert has been issued in the districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod.

People living in waterlogged areas, riverbanks, and landslide-prone areas have been advised to exercise caution. Authorities have advised residents living near the coast to exercise caution and evacuate as directed.

The IMD forecasted on Friday that the Southwest Monsoon will return to Kerala after a brief hiatus.

Tomorrow’s forecast:

Red alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts on July 11. Orange alert in the districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Yellow alert in the districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad.
(A red alert denotes extremely heavy rainfall – more than 204 millimetres of rain in 24 hours; an orange alert denotes heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6mm to 204.4mm; and a yellow alert denotes rainfall ranging from 64.5mm to 115 mm.
