In Assam’s Kaziranga district, a tiger carcass with a bullet wound was found.

On the outskirts of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) in Assam, a male tiger’s carcass was discovered with a bullet wound on Friday morning.

The carcass was discovered by forest personnel near Japoripathar, Karuabari area on the outskirts of KNPTR at 7.10 a.m., according to a brief statement from the forest department.

“Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the tiger died as a result of a bullet wound, which was suspected to be [from] accidental firing while attempting to scare the tiger away from the public area,” the statement continued. More information about the incident is awaited.

P Sivakumar, director of the KNPTR, confirmed that the tiger, who was around 10 years old, died as a result of forest personnel firing accidentally.

This is the third time a tiger carcass has been discovered at KNPTR. The body of a four-year-old male tiger was discovered earlier this month in the park’s Sidha Kathani area.

The carcass had multiple injury marks, according to forest officials, and they believe the tiger died as a result of grievous injuries sustained during a fight with another male tiger.

In February of this year, the park discovered the carcass of a female tiger cub with puncture marks on the neck and broken ribs. The cub, estimated to be around 4 months old, may have been killed by a larger tiger, according to forest officials.

According to a 2017 census, there were 111 tigers in Kaziranga.
