Central ministry with plans to roll out Wi-Fi service across the country

Central Ministry  is planning to set up public WiFi networks across the country. Public Wi-Fi networks are being set up to strengthen the public Wi-Fi network chain. Broadband Internet over public Wi-Fi networks does not have a license fee. The project is called PM-WiFi Access Network Interface or ‘PM-Vani’, said IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Wi-Fi service will be given through Public Data Offices (PDOs). The Center has also approved the installation of a deep sea optical fiber cable to carry high speed broadband from Kochi to Lakshadweep.
