The government claims that there is no longer a need to open the Idukki, Idamalayar, and Kakki dams

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has determined that there is no need to immediately open the shutters of the Idukki, Idamalayar, and Kakki dams. The decision was made at an Electricity Board CMD meeting presided over by the Minister of Electricity and ANERT Krishnankutty. The meeting concluded that there is no cause for concern because rainfall in the catchment area decreased on Sunday.

The Kakki Dam was a source of concern for the Electricity Board. The water level in Kakki Dam is now 979.50 metres, and a red alert was issued when it fell below 978 metres. It is estimated that increasing power production will allow the water table to be regulated. Currently, the flow in the dams’ catchment area has decreased slightly. The dams do not need to be opened, according to the current weather forecast, because rainfall is expected to be lower in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the KSEB has suffered significant losses as a result of the rains. The loss suffered by KSEB is estimated to be Rs 13.67 crore. Rains caused damage to 4.18 lakh power connections. 60 transformers, lines with voltages greater than 11 KV, 339 posts, and 1398 low tension posts were also damaged. On a war footing, KSEB has taken action to restore the power connection.
