Railways Considers Rerouting Vande Bharat Express via Kottayam Instead of Alappuzha

The Indian Railways has suggested the possibility of rerouting the Vande Bharat Express via Kottayam instead of its current route through Alappuzha if there is insufficient public interest in the existing route. This announcement follows demands from a group of passengers, led by MLA A.M. Ariff, expressing dissatisfaction with delays and disruptions caused to passenger trains due to the arrival of the Vande Bharat Express.

In response to the concerns raised by passengers, the Railways stated that, in order to restore the schedule of two passenger trains to their timings prior to the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express, the only viable solution is to run the express train through the double track via Kottayam. The Railways has urged public representatives to reconsider this proposal.

The adjustments in the schedule of two passenger trains running between Alappuzha and Kayamkulam were made to accommodate the Vande Bharat Express. However, passengers have raised complaints against these changes, accusing the Railways of favoring Vande Bharat over other trains. The Railways clarified that the schedule alterations were aimed at improving the efficiency of the service.

The Railways emphasized that, following the introduction of Vande Bharat, passenger trains are running on time on the Ernakulam-Alappuzha-Kayamkulam route. The travel time for both arrival and departure of passenger trains, before and after Vande Bharat, has been assessed, and the Railways highlighted the reduction in travel time for these passenger trains.
