PV Sindhu moves to the semi-finals after defeating Yamaguchi

Shuttler from India PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles semi-finals after defeating Japan’s number four seed Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals on Friday at the Musashino Forest Plaza Court 1. Yamaguchi was defeated by Sindhu 21-13, 22-20. Sindhu and Yamaguchi’s quarterfinal match lasted 56 minutes.

The first game was closer than the score indicated, and Sindhu had to bring her A-game to win 21-13. The first game’s score may not reflect how closely it was fought, but Yamaguchi made her fight for every point. The star Indian shuttler was only one game away from reaching the semi-finals.

Sindhu beat Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt in the Round of 16 match of the women’s individual event at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday at the Musashino Forest Plaza Court 3. Sindhu easily defeated Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in 41 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals.
