For travel to Karnataka, an RT-PCR test is required

Thiruvananthapuram: The Railway authorities have informed passengers travelling to Karnataka that an RT-PCR negative result is required. Karnataka’s government recently issued an order mandating RT-PCR testing in addition to vaccination certificates.

Though the documents will not be scrutinised on the trains, the Karnataka health department and police force may take action against passengers who do not have the test results.

The rule also applies to passengers entering Karnataka via buses, taxis, and private vehicles. There will also be inspections at checkpoints.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed on Saturday that the administrations of districts bordering Kerala, which has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, implement special surveillance measures to control the spread of the infection.

Only those with a certificate proving they have taken two doses will be allowed to cross the border into Kerala beginning Sunday, and they must do so.

Only those with a certificate of having taken two doses will be allowed to cross the border with Kerala beginning Sunday, and they must have an RT-PCR negative certificate that is no more than 72 hours old.

“We previously stated that those travelling across borders, such as in Dakshina Kannada, should undergo an RT-PCR test once every 14 days and have a negative certificate. It has now been cut down to seven days. In addition, random testing at border checkpoints will be expanded “He stated.

He said that instructions on having oxygen plants and beds, as well as strictly managing micro containment zones, tracking and tracing, had been given, and that COVID norms such as social distancing and wearing masks should be strictly followed.

Checkpoints will be set up in border districts as well, and vehicles, particularly those coming from Kerala, will be subjected to additional scrutiny.

Furthermore, when accepting bookings, resorts and home stays should check for RT-PCR negative certificates and vaccination certificates. Similar measures, according to Bommai, will be implemented in districts bordering Maharashtra, such as Belagavi, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Bidar.
