Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development by dedicating the country’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata. The underwater marvel, part of the Kolkata Metro’s 16.6 km corridor, spans a length of 520 meters beneath the Hooghly River, reaching a depth of 40 meters below the ground level. This engineering feat connects Howrah on the west side of the river to Salt Lake City on the east bank, with the metro traversing the tunnel in just 45 seconds.
