New Delhi: Around 300 Indian nationals are expected to land in India today as part of India’s evacuation mission in the aftermath of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan (August 22, 2021). Eighty-seven Indians who were flown to Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe from Kabul on Saturday by an Indian Air Force military transport plane are being returned to the country on a special Air India flight from the central Asian city early on Sunday.

Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, confirmed that two Nepalese citizens are also flying to India on the Air India flight.

The Indian embassy in Qatar, on the other hand, stated that 135 Indians who were evacuated from Kabul to Doha in recent days are being returned to India.

“First batch of 135 Indians who were evacuated from Kabul to Doha over the past days being repatriated tonight to India,” the embassy said in a tweet after midnight.

According to the statement, embassy officials provided consular and logistical assistance to ensure the Indians’ safe return.

“We thank Qatar’s authorities and everyone involved for making this possible,” the statement continued.

Meanwhile, nearly 100 Indians who were evacuated from Kabul to Doha by US and NATO aircraft are expected to return to the country on Sunday.

It should be noted that India has already evacuated 200 people, including the Indian envoy and other staff members of its embassy in Kabul, using two IAF C-17 heavy-lift transport planes.

On Monday, the first evacuation flight returned over 40 people, the majority of whom were employees of the Indian embassy. On Tuesday, the second C-17 aircraft evacuated approximately 150 people from Kabul, including Indian diplomats, officials, security personnel, and some stranded Indians.

Previously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs provided contact information for all Indian nationals in Afghanistan in need of assistance.
