5 Essential Nutrients Every Woman (25-45 Age) Must Incorporate for Optimal Health: Expert Insights

The nutritional needs of women between the ages of 25 and 45 play a crucial role in maintaining overall health, particularly during their reproductive years. Dr. Sushma Singh, a PG resident from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at VMMC and Safadarjung Hospital, emphasizes the vulnerability of women in this age group to undernutrition, especially in lower socio-economic status. To address this, she highlights five essential nutrients that women in this age bracket must incorporate into their diet for optimal well-being.

Iron: Essential for blood formation, iron helps create haemoglobin, a protein transporting oxygen in the body. Women in this age group, prone to iron deficiency due to menstruation and blood loss, must ensure adequate iron intake to prevent anaemia.

Calcium: Critical for bone health, calcium is especially vital for women as they age, reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Insufficient calcium intake can lead to bone loss or fractures later in life.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Beneficial for heart health and cognitive function, Omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in regulating menstrual cycles and supporting brain development during pregnancy.

Folate: Crucial for fetal development and preventing neural tube defects during pregnancy, folate is found in chickpeas, kidney beans, broccoli, peas, and leafy greens.

Vitamin D: Essential for bone health, mood regulation, and immune function, Vitamin D is often deficient in women due to limited sunlight exposure and inadequate dietary intake. Dr. Singh recommends spending time in the sunlight to activate Vitamin D for overall well-being.
