Gujarat: 18 Coronavirus patients die in Bharuch hospital fire

At least 18 Coronavirus patients died after a fire broke out at a hospital in Gujarat’s Bharuch in the early hours on Saturday.

Bharuch Superintendent of Police Rajendrasing Chudasama said the patients, who were being treated in Covid ward died of burns and smoke. He added that the death toll could rise. The Covid hospitals located on the Bharuch-JambusarNational Highway. It operates under trust. The fire brigade said that fire broke out in the Covid ward on the ground floor at around 1 am

About 18 people were still dead though they were subdued. About 50 rescued patients were shifted to nearby hospitals. “As of 6.30 am, 18 people have been killed so far. Twelve deaths were confirmed after the blaze, “said PTI, quoting a police official.

Bharuch SP Rajendrasing Chudasama said that 12 patients in the Covid ward Died due to smoke inhalation and fire. He said it was unclear whether the other six died at the hospital or after being transferred to other hospitals.

A few days ago, four people died in a fire at a hospital in Thane Maharashtra. The fire broke out at the Crticare Hospital in Mumbra. Patients who were on the ventilator died. Twenty patients were discharged from the hospital, including those in the intensive care unit.
