Do you want to know how to choose the best fragrance? Use these helpful hints before purchasing a new perfume

Purchasing a new perfume, especially for a special someone, can be a complete hit or a complete miss. Mukul Nagori, an Indore-based perfumer, shares a few tips with Asianet Newsable to get you a handy guide on how to pick a perfume for yourself.

Most popular fragrances: If you are looking to add a new fragrance to your collection, there are some notes to consider before purchasing a perfume. Among these are ‘woody’ (Oudh, cedarwood, patchouli, vetiver), ‘aqua,’ ‘gourmand smells’ (vanilla, chocolate, coconut), ‘oriental spices’ (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), and ‘citrus.’ These five notes are the most popular fragrances among people.

People are turning away from perfumes and toward pure essential oils. “Picking the right fragrance, especially if you’re buying it for someone else, can be a tricky job,” Mukul says of the preferred fragrances for oil blends. Everyone has a different preference, but these days, most people prefer pure essential oil blends. And among these, lavender, sage, rosemary, orange, neroli, and peppermint are among the most popular.”

Choose the right size: Perfumes come in a variety of sizes these days. It is critical to select the correct size. However, different sizes are available; choose between a 5 ml and a 10 ml bottle. These sizes are convenient and can be carried anywhere without taking up too much space.

The proper way to try a perfume: When purchasing a perfume, you must not only understand its fragrance but also how it develops on you. When trying out a perfume, put it on your wrist first and then smell it. Some perfume takes time to smell good, so give it another sniff after a while.

The proper way to apply perfume (roll-on bottle) is to first apply it to the wrist or back of the palm, then rub it all over the clothes. This increases the fragrance’s longevity. In the case of a spray bottle, he recommends holding it at least six centimetres away from the chest.
