WhatsApp Introduces Multi-Account Feature on Android: A Guide to Activation

WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has announced a significant update for Android users. Instead of being restricted to a single active account on one device, users can now have two active WhatsApp accounts simultaneously on Android devices. To enable this feature, users need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone supporting multi-SIM or eSIM capabilities. By navigating to WhatsApp settings and selecting “Add account,” users can set up a second WhatsApp account using their secondary phone number. Notably, users can customize privacy and notification settings separately for each account, allowing for a seamless transition between work and personal accounts without requiring a second device.

Furthermore, messages sent and received on both accounts are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring user privacy and security. WhatsApp advises users to download the official app exclusively from the Google Play Store and warns against using imitation apps.

While this multi-account feature enhances user convenience by eliminating the need to carry two phones, WhatsApp has yet to confirm its availability on iOS devices. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced other updates, including a ‘view once’ mode toggle for voice messages, similar to the existing feature for photos and videos. Additionally, Android users can now utilize passkeys for secure account re-entry, employing biometric authentication or device PINs.
