Dragged to the toilet; When she cried, he put a shawl in her mouth: Defendant described cruelty

The probe team has started taking evidence with Babukuttan, the accused in the case of attacking a woman on the Guruvayur-Punalur Express and stealing gold jewelery.

Evidence was taken yesterday at the D9 coach of the train where the incident took place and at the establishment in Karunagapally which tried to pawn the gold.

The D9 coach was shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram yard on the day of the incident as part of the investigation. The evidence was taken at the Thiruvananthapuram Central station with the accused. Defendant described the manner in which the crime was committed before the investigation team.

When Babukuttan reached Chengannur by train after the crime, he saw the police checking and revealed that he had got down at the nearest station, Mavelikkara. From here he took a bus to Karunagapally and tried to pawn the gold. But could not because of lack of identification

The investigation team suspects that Babukuttan was helped by someone else to pawn the gold. More information on this is being gathered. The accused will be taken to Mulanthuruthi railway station today and evidence will be taken.

Asha, a native of Snehanagar, Mulanthuruthi, was robbed and assaulted inside a train on the 28th. The accused Babukuttan was arrested on Tuesday from Chittaur, Pathanamthitta.

The accused, who was undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College for epilepsy, was taken into custody by the Railway Police on Friday. The custody period is up to 12 days.

Defendant inserted a shawl into the mouth of a crying young woman who hung from a door bar to escape the violence on the train. The investigation team found the atrocities of the accused during the taking of evidence yesterday.

The accused, who was traveling in a D10 coach, got down at Mulanthuruthi station and after observing the other coaches, he came to know that the woman was alone and switched to the D9 coach. Babukuttan climbed through the front door of the 6-door coach and closed all the doors. Meanwhile, the young woman opened the door in the middle. After closing the last door, he came back to the girl, snatched her mobile phone and threw it out.

He grabbed her by the hair, broke her necklace, threatened her with a screwdriver, grabbed her ring and bag. Then he grabbed her by the hair again and tried to drag her to the side of the toilet, but the young woman jumped up and down the steps of the door to escape and hung on the bar.

The accused told investigators that he put a shawl in her mouth when she cried loudly at this time. The woman fell from the train during the ensuing resistance. The accused then ate the food in the bowl in the girl’s bag. He took the glasses and money out of the bag. The next journey was through these glasses.
